'None of these poems are strictly contemporary, some of them first presented themselves when I was still in my mid-twenties, and even the latest examples still represent the mindset of a considerably younger man. However, rather than leave them flightless, I have gathered them into this thrum, surreptitiously sharpened one or two of them and, without aiming at anything in particular, loosed them off. Where they will land is anyone’s guess.'
